— Why he’s one of the greats
Doctrinal exposition with a revivalist’s urgency, and the Word and Spirit together.
A Kentucky-born, Oxford-trained theologian who for 25 years (1977-2002) held Martyn Lloyd-Jones’s pulpit at Westminster Chapel in London. His secret: He fuses Lloyd-Jones’s doctrinal exposition with a revivalist’s urgency. He reads the whole passage, names clear points (often alliterative), and draws sharp distinctions: gifts and fruit, saving faith and persistent faith, Word and Spirit. His own stories, especially his own hurts, run through all of it. Then nearly every sermon turns toward eternity and ends with a prayer of commitment and a call to stand.

What makes his style unique
“At times, Kendall seems to be the legitimate successor of Martin Lloyd Jones.”
