Late-20th-century American evangelicalism. Sproul built a teaching ministry first and became a local pastor later: Ligonier Valley Study Center (1971), The Holiness of God (1985), the Renewing Your Mind broadcast (1994) and Saint Andrew’s Chapel (1997). His secret: He was a teacher who preached. Each sermon takes one text phrase by phrase and spends time on history, archaeology and a Greek word, so the passage feels as real as a news event. He keeps it warm with “beloved,” humor and church-history stories. His own homiletics rule: find the drama in the text, then preach the drama.
