— Why he’s one of the greats
Start with what the crowd feels, open one Bible story, and call for a decision tonight.
Greg Laurie came to faith on a Southern California high school campus in 1970 and has spent five decades preaching the gospel to people who would never walk into a church. He moved from Calvary Chapel’s casual Bible teaching to Billy Graham-style crusades, and he carried both with him. His secret: he starts with the listener, not the lecture. He names what the crowd already feels (empty, guilty, afraid of death, sure God is angry) and then opens one Bible character’s story to answer it. He says the hard objections out loud, gives his own testimony as evidence, and keeps the vocabulary plain enough for a first-time hearer. Every message drives toward one clear decision, made tonight.
