Writing in the Sermon Writer

The Sermon Writer is where study becomes a manuscript. It's a writing surface built to help you shape and sharpen your own words — not to replace them.

From research to manuscript

Once you've run a deep research report, you'll have far more material than a single sermon needs. The Sermon Writer is where you decide what to keep. Pull the threads that matter — an exegetical insight, an illustration, a turn of application — and begin building around them. The research stays close at hand, so you're never copying and pasting between tabs.

Outline help

If you're staring at a blank page, ask for an outline. The Writer can suggest a structure for the passage and tradition you're working in — a few movements you can accept, reorder, or throw out entirely. It's a starting shape, not a finished frame, and it's there to break the inertia of the first sentence.

Tightening, and keeping your voice

As you write, the Writer helps you sharpen what's already there:

  • Tightening prose that's gone slack or repetitive.
  • Catching clichés before they reach the pulpit.
  • Flagging a paragraph that wanders from your point.

Throughout, the goal is to preserve your voice. The suggestions read like edits to your sentences, not a different writer's version of them. The cadence that makes a sermon sound like you stays intact.

Good to know

Barnabas is present here too, so you can ask questions about the text or your own past preaching without leaving the page.

What it won't do

There is no "write the whole sermon" button, and that's deliberate. The Sermon Writer is not a ghostwriter. It won't generate a finished message for you to read cold on Sunday, because the work of wrestling with the text is the work of preaching. What it will do is sit beside you while you do that work — and make the writing faster, cleaner, and unmistakably yours.

When the manuscript is close to ready, take it into Sermon Coach and Rehearsal to pressure-test it before you preach.
