The Gift of Administration: Meaning, Bible Verses & Signs You Have It

The gift of administration is the Spirit-given ability to organize people, resources, and plans so that ministry actually happens. Administrators turn vision into schedules, systems, and follow-through — steering the church the way a pilot steers a ship, which is exactly the picture the Greek word paints.

Where it appears in Scripture

And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, administrating, and various kinds of tongues.

1 Corinthians 12:28

This is why I left you in Crete, so that you might put what remained into order.

Titus 1:5

The word translated "administrating" (kubernesis) is the word for a ship's pilot — the person who charts the course and brings everyone safely to the destination.

Signs you might have the gift of administration

  • You instinctively turn big ideas into task lists, timelines, and owners.
  • Disorder genuinely bothers you — you can't watch a chaotic process without wanting to fix it.
  • People hand you things because "you'll actually make it happen."
  • You get more satisfaction from a smoothly-run event than from being on stage at it.

Where this gift serves in the church

Administrators are the reason Sunday starts on time. Churches place this gift over check-in systems, event planning, volunteer scheduling, finance teams, and any ministry that has outgrown sticky notes.

How it pairs with your personality

Administration often pairs with a C (Conscientious) or S (Steady) personality — precise, dependable, systems-minded. A D-wired administrator runs point on big projects; an S-wired one keeps long-running ministries humming. The free assessment measures both together — your gifts and your DISC profile — because the same gift looks different in different people.

Common questions

Is administration a spiritual gift or just a skill?

Both exist. Plenty of people are organized; the spiritual gift is organization employed by the Spirit for the building up of the church (1 Corinthians 12:7). The test of the gift is fruit: ministry moves forward and people are served when you organize it.

Is the gift of administration the same as leadership?

They're related but distinct. Leadership (Romans 12:8) sets direction and moves people toward it; administration builds the systems that get everyone there. Many great teams pair a leader with an administrator.
