— Why he’s one of the greats
Make them turn the pages, fill the blanks, and hear every point twice before you pray.
The podcast-and-pulpit era of young Reformed evangelicals. Jonny Ardavanis grew up a pastor’s son, studied accounting and finance, and started preaching as a chaplain in a juvenile hall before campus ministry at The Master’s University and a pulpit in Franklin, Tennessee. He took his church through John’s Gospel a few verses at a time and was still in it 27 months later. His secret: he preaches like a Bible study leader with a stadium voice. Every sermon is a chain of “turn with me” passages, because he wants people to “see it with your own eyes,” and he keeps the room working by leaving the last word of a verse for them to finish (“Yahweh what? Reigns”). Numbered points, a quoted Puritan or Ryle, and a joke about Google Images or Larry Bird sit side by side. Then he recaps every point in one breath before he prays.

What makes his style unique
“I’m not trying to come up with the word of God. I just want to preach it.”
