— Why he’s one of the greats
Three points that share a sound, filled with one-liners, ending at “Come to Jesus.”
A Southern Baptist pastor of the radio and television age, who led Bellevue Baptist in Memphis from 1972 to 2005. His secret: He turned one text into a three-part outline that is easy to remember because the points share a sound (the same first letter, or the same ending). He filled each point with cross-references, everyday stories and quotable one-liners people called “Adrianisms.” Whatever the topic, every sermon ended with “Come to Jesus.” His wife Joyce called his gift “sound-bite wisdom.”

“Of all the preachers that I have heard, I think he was at the top of my list.”
